  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Renard is currently the manager of France's Women's team, but reports that Egypt have opened talks to appoint him. The Pharaohs were eliminated from the AFCON at the last-16 stage by DR Congo on penalties after a 1-1 draw, leaving Vitoria's job hanging by a thread.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Renard has plenty of experience under his belt at the age of 55. He has managed six international teams throughout his career: Zambia, twice, Angola, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Saudi Arabia, as well as France's women. He has won the African Cup of Nations twice, with both Zambia and the Ivory Coast, becoming the first manager to win the tournament twice with two different teams.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Egypt are the most successful team in AFCON history, having won the prize seven times. As a result, one has to think that their Round of 16 elimination in 2024 simply won't fly with the decision-makers in the Egyptian Football Association, hence their pursuit of Renard.

    WHAT NEXT FOR EGYPT?

It remains to be seen if Renard is interested in leaving his post with France. Egypt have time on their hands, though, as they do not play again until June 3, in a World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso.
